Array-ne Harvard Hillside - Harvard,MA,USAAREA — State Rep. Peter Koutoujian and the Joint Committee on Public Health held a public hearing on Lyme disease to gather testimony on a disease that infected roughly 1,500 Massachusetts residents last year alone. The hearing was held at Nashoba Valley Medical Center. We are well into the Lyme disease season, said Koutoujian, D-Waltham. The ticks, which cannot jump or fly, climb onto animals and people who brush against the plants. One group of women came up from the Cape Cod support group of Lyme disease sufferers.Jacquelyn Nesbitt, Karen Hullett-LaRoche, Sharon Mendes and Susan Soares all have first-hand knowledge of how debilitating the disease can be.Nesbitt has chronic Lyme disease and spent two years bedridden from the effects. Many children are misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder when in reality, they are suffering from Lyme disease, she said.Koutoujian said to date there are 244 confirmed cases of Lyme disease in Middlesex County, which is a 94 percent increase since 2000. We have both heard from so many other people that have Lyme disease in our area.Alton said he and his wife have searched for a specialist in the field of Lyme disease, and that they are considering to go out of state. One thing we have discovered is total ignorance by doctors on Lyme, he said. I went on the Internet and found only two Massachusetts doctors that are specialists in the disease. He said his wife also suffers from breast cancer, which makes the Lyme that much more difficult to deal with.In the early stages of Lyme disease it can be treated with antibiotics.

(If only I could install Norton on my truck to fix the bugs…) So the day of our trip the AC decided to swear off blowing cool forever. We drove with the windows down, cruzing down the freeway at 75 to 80 mph catching as much breeze as possible. I hate asking for help, so I’m not sure if I was more upset about the truck problem or about having to call someone for help.We waited for the engine to cool, filled the radiator with water and drove the remaining hour to our destination…The Lube and Tune place near my parents house always had a mechanic on hand when someone came wanting fixings other than just an oil change or a cleaning and so I hoped he could decipher the problem. They wanted about 00 for parts and 00 for the labor.I did some research, found that replacing the water pump wouldn’t require taking out the engine and hopped on board with a vacation goal of fixing my truck. In fact my wife volunteered to help and it was she who unscrewed the bolts I couldn’t manage (despite my squeezing and screaming) to take off.I worked off and on for three days in sweat and blood and grease. What’s your motivation (Ugh…dontcha hate cliches)?Off topic: Though hard work is not required for salvation, it should exemplify someone’s orientation of heart, right?

I think I have a thing for older men. My friend shares the same passion for older men and I think she hit the nail on the head when she summarized the reasons older men are better for younger women. I am attracted almost exclusively to older men for a few very important reasons: 1) In theory they should have their act together (I don’t want a man who is still trying to explore who he is and what he wants out of life); 3) depending on how much older they are, they think everything I do is cute or charming instead of obnoxious and annoying like men my own age would think (patience is a virtue that older men have and younger men seem to always lack).”Isn’t she brilliant! The sad thing is that right now, I’m crushing on a man that I think is about 50 years old and he isn’t paying very much attention to me because I think that he thinks that I may think that he’s too old for me. Well, that’s the end of my list of older men — for now.I’m sitting at work now sipping on a smoothie from GNC. I think that I’m going to end my crush on the guy that I think is 50.

I called Linksys who was incredibly helpful but told me to talk to Verizon. What I should have done was conferenced the two together. After 3hrs and 3 phone calls on Sunday evening, I finally got the two to agree to a reality. They had to work together to pull me outta the hole. So, Linksys got my keys all corrected (let me just reset your keys) and Verizon got my password corrected (let me just reset your password) and voila, cha-ching, shabanm!

While I thoroughly enjoy keeping all you folks at home updated on my travels, it doesn’t make too much sense to me to put so much time into recounting things that I don’t have any time to experience anything. Before I came here I received some sage advice from a person into who’s opinion I place great amount of trust: “Don’t not experience it in exchange for remembering it.” I have taken some photos, but I’m not here so I can tell people about it. I think comfort is relative and while living here isn’t really like anything I’ve ever done before, it’s my life now and I can either embrace it and roll on or pick apart all the things I miss about home and be miserable. it then I may as well come home now.Hiking at a Place Called Pairumani…getting away on the weekends like this with my friends helps keep me saneMy Spanish is improving every day and we’ve started to learn common slang phrases and there is even talk of digging into Quechua, which is one of the indigenous languages here, which is pretty exciting for me. And since she’s from New Zealand, everything sounds cool coming out of her mouth.I have spent a whole lot of time hanging out with my little sisters (Shirley & Jesica) and the cousins that live next door (Jeni & Liz). Their mom is currently in Spain working, so they spend a lot of time here, having meals, playing and what not. I am going to try and get some materials from the Peace Corps that I can use to move them along as much as I have time for while I’m here…after all, knowing the colors and numbers in English is not going to get you very far. We also play soccer with the neighborhood kids and my brother when I get a chance and I’ve learned a few of their games they play here which have different names but are essentially all the same as the games I played when I was a kid. They crack me up all the time and I think they enjoy being laughed at as much as I enjoy laughing at them.Three of my four english students having an evening coffee between lessonsI think training is treating me better.

Mavi Boncuk Archives: The search for a new ground. Interview with Zeynep Gambetti

Array-ne
By DOROTHY SCHNEIDERdschneider@journalandcourier.comWhile the full impact of Home Hospital closing its psychiatric unit this week has not yet been felt, local mental health advocates anticipate the dollar and social costs will be high. The loss of the psychiatric unit — which Home Hospital officials said Wednesday may just be temporary — is a symptom of a national trend of overlooking mental health care that may be tough to reverse. Most people believe that spending money and treating mental illness is like throwing it away. Like money down a rat hole, said Joseph Vanable, board president of Indiana’s chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness.Vanable also is a retired biological sciences professor from Purdue University.Legislatures and insurance industries … dont understand how treatable it is. And they dont understand the consequences of not treating it.Vanable said that years ago the success rate in treating mental illness was much lower. But now, through a combination of medication and therapy, doctors can reduce symptoms for 70 percent to 90 percent of patients.Without proper treatment, patients more often miss work, have to turn to expensive emergency care and sometimes commit criminal offenses or suicide. But poor insurance coverage — marked by high co-pays and limited options — is making treatment too expensive for many patients and not lucrative enough for many doctors to enter or stay in the field. In fact, a recent study showed Indiana had only about half as many psychiatrists as the national average, said Alan Schmetzer, psychiatry professor and director of residency training at Indiana University.ADVERTISEMENTMost mental health advocates believe reform needs to start with federal laws forcing private insurance companies to provide a fairer reimbursement to providers. Schmetzer said the state also needs to invest in psychiatry education.IU’s psychiatry residency program — the only one in the state — can take only six new students each year. And Schmetzer said the psychiatry pool will shrink drastically in the next six to eight years as the baby boomer-generation of doctors retires.A 2006 study by Indiana University showed there are 529 licensed psychiatrists in the state; 38 percent of them are over the age of 55, and 37 percent are between the ages of 45 and 54.The loss of the 20-bed psychiatric unit at Home Hospital puts an added burden on Wabash Valley Hospital’s 15-bed inpatient psychiatric unit and other facilities in Logansport, Kokomo and Indianapolis.Jennifer Flora, chief executive officer of the Mental Health Association in Tippecanoe County, is concerned about meeting the needs of local residents. This sends us one step backwards, she said. Mental illness is no different than a physical illness in that it can hit anyone at any time. … Now we have one less resource that we can get in touch with.Even if Home Hospital gets its psychiatric units back in operation, the region’s mental health needs won’t be satisfied. There are waiting lists for treatment all around the state, said Bill LeFurgy, executive director of the West Central Indiana NAMI chapter. In mental health, you cant wait two months to get treatment. When its not treated, mental illness can deteriorate quickly.Mental illness is the single most prevalent disability in the U.S. But if they are treated then their lives can be restored. They can be productive and participating citizens.

That is how I actually started learning about the details of what was happening in Turkey, because it was only in France that we could talk about certain things without censure, or that they could talk to me without censuring themselves.[5] EJTS: What about Kurdish students in Boğaziçi?[6] ZG: In Boğaziçi, at that time, of course there was no organization of Kurdish students. It was only in France that I got the sense of the social, economic, political, ethnic dimensions of the Kurdish question.[7] EJTS: What was the subject of your PhD research? Is there a way to link your interest in the question to your previous researches?[8] ZG: Actually my research had nothing to do with the Kurdish question. We set up an interestingly interdisciplinary team together.[11] EJTS: Was there, at that time, such a circle within the university where scholars were able to talk about the Kurdish question?[12] ZG: At the time we were talking about it, there was nobody, except Kemal Kirişçi, from the Political Science department in Boğaziçi University. But after that, I got to know other people who were actually working or had started working on the Kurdish question.[13] EJTS: When you started studying on the Kurdish issue, what were your readings? By that time, a number of people were starting to conduct research in the region and I was getting to know them. I started meeting students who were either doing research on the Kurdish question or who were Kurdish and therefore interested in the question. There was a snow-ball effect, so to speak.[15] EJTS: When you started to research the question, what did you work on? The research questioned the relevance of the Habermasian scheme of a rational-deliberative public sphere in accounting for the emergence of spaces of contact and communication. What I was after was understanding how a public sphere could emerge there despite the ongoing antagonism.[17] EJTS: How did you conduct fieldwork within this research project? This meant that we would not be doing individual research, on our own to come together in an edited volume of articles, but that we would continually talk to each other in workshops, relate our findings and questions to each other, so that we could actually contribute to each other’s perspective and get a picture of the totality. Actually, I should not be using that term, since as a team, we decided not to contribute to what has been called ‘democratization studies’.[19] EJTS: How did you actually choose the title of this research program: ‘(Trans)formation of Conflict: Changing Power Configurations and Path to Democracy in South-eastern Turkey’?[20] ZG: We did not want to refer to a certain literature; So, in the end we got the money from Boğaziçi University, which is, I think, a merit of that university.[23] EJTS: Could you please retrace for us the history of your research program? We started with a core group of mainly political science research assistants, who then spread the word out to others. The centre collects data and then presents this data to the migrants and local social workers themselves.[29] EJTS: Was it/Will it be possible during this research program to build relationships with other universities and with which ones?[30] ZG: I think it would have been possible, but we did not. We met these people, working in other universities, while doing the research, not before.[31] EJTS: What about the publication?[32] ZG: Actually, it was New Perspectives on Turkey who asked us to edit a special issue on the Kurdish question. Also other research, not belonging to our team, appeared in this issue.[33] EJTS: Do you think that a similar issue may have been published earlier or is it something which is only possible now?[34] ZG: I think it was only possible now. But from there, of course, in two years, the field evolved…[41] EJTS: Can you tell us more about the way you concretely ‘entered’ the fieldwork?[42] ZG: The first time we went to Diyarbakır, we were a group of five women researchers. Did you contact any teacher or student there who would have been interested in your research program?[44] ZG: I found the name of a research assistant at Dicle University. Feridun Çelik was the Diyarbakır Mayor, but I could only talk to his advisors.[47] EJTS: What about local political parties?[48] ZG: I didn’t go to political parties branches because my work was on civil societies. This was the first time that almost all of the regional associations working on the issue of women’s employment came together in Diyarbakır.[49] EJTS: What was interesting for you in that conference?[50] ZG: It was revealing because, first of all, I went there to look at the Kurdish question, which is a political question, and the first aspect of it that I saw was the problem women face in the region, of the rate of unemployment there and the lack of income sources. I do not think one can do that in Istanbul.[53] EJTS: Would studying on Kurdish migrants in Istanbul be a way to ask the question?[54] ZG: I think you can study aspects of the Kurdish question in Istanbul: migration as you say or even, you know, the strictly political aspect of the question. In our research, we wanted to bring in all of these various dimensions of the Kurdish question into the picture. Because this is not just a political question, it is not just an ethnic question, it is not just an economic question. And therefore, going to the region is essential to see what the dynamics are and how these various dimensions link up to each other.[55] EJTS: Would you think about the Southeast as a specific political and public sphere with its own dynamics?[56] ZG: Own dynamics, maybe not, but with different dynamics than the rest of Turkey, because the region has been excluded for so long from the national public sphere and from the allocation of resources from the centre, from the allocation of educational resources. I think it has certain dynamics that do not exist elsewhere in Turkey.[57] EJTS: A lot of researchers in Turkey working on the Kurdish issues seem to have gone through foreign and especially American universities. I think more young people are going to the region actually, more young researchers. Or much more to changes readable within Turkish public and political life?[62] ZG: After 1980, there was not much written on the question, except maybe by Kurds living outside of Turkey. So the Kurdish question did not appear in any academic journal until well into the 1990’s, I think – if we are talking about the post-1980 period, of course, because before that, as you know, İsmail Beşikçi and others have written on the question. Well into the 1990’s, the question could not become a question for the Turkish academia or an interest for Turkish intellectuals as such. To be able to go there changed the academia’s attitude to the region and to the Kurdish question.[63] EJTS: Do you see some evolutions - in time and space - in the ‘trendy’ way to ask the Kurdish question within Turkey - from macro reflections on ethnic identities and right to self-determination to micro considerations on poverty alleviation in the Southeast for example?-, and outside Turkey as well?[64] ZG: I think the Kurdish question has definitely evolved for Turkish academia doing fieldwork, definitely evolved from a legal question or an international political question, like you just said, into a more sociological question. But, let’s say, doing research on the situation of women in the region can be backed through various funding agencies or various universities. Such research does not disturb the political authorities and it does actually open up a new perspective on the situation in the region. But it somehow does or can have the effect of depoliticizing the Kurdish question, turning it into a question of the region, the Southeast. There are a lot of funds available for going to the region now and these funds are given mainly in the social and economic domains: poverty alleviation, the plight of the migrants – without the question being asked of why they immigrated, thus freezing the situation in the aftermath of the migration and not looking at the reasons why… And not asking the question of whether the government’s scheme of going back to the villages is functioning or is desirable… The region is accessible to researchers as any other field is now. That is why we wanted to entitle our research project ‘the (trans)formation of conflict’ and not ‘the end of conflict’.[65] EJTS: You have underlined the way the passage through foreign universities and the funding type of the researches may contribute to shape the terms in which the Kurdish question is asked. But if you go more into the detail and ask critical questions – has it really transformed certain power relations, has it really changed the minds of the people, has it really brought the government to accept the fact of the Kurdish population and of Kurdish culture – then the answers are much more ambiguous and a researcher can prefer to ask those questions or not.[67] EJTS: Do you see the emergence of a new generation of scholars? Or is it much more complex than that?[68] ZG: There is definitely a new interest among the young generation, among people who are doing PhD now in foreign universities, but also doing the research in Turkey, or among those who plan to do a PhD. And I definitely think the academic field that has opened up the possibility of looking at the Kurdish question differently is anthropology, not political science. For the past three or four years only.[71] EJTS: Is there any dialogue at all between what would be generations of scholars (talking about theoretical traditions and approaches), but also between the different universities and research centres all over Turkey you would know about (for example between Istanbul/Ankara on one side and ‘peripheral’ universities, such as Diyarbakır or Konya on the other)? It can be initiated by people who have done research and want to present their findings, people working in research centres like TESEV or Sabancı’s research centres. Actually, since the Kurdish question has become accessible in recent years, researchers interview the same people more or less. And even the more mainstream research – I am not talking about research done before the 1990’s, I am talking about the new generations of scholars, in that new generation, between the more mainstream and the more critical stream – there is dialogue. They had, maybe more than others, the taboo breaking and the trend-setting function.[76] EJTS: Do you know of any equivalent of your research program within private universities?[77] ZG: Not that I know of.[78] EJTS: To sum up in a way, do you think universities offer enough possibilities and freedoms to work on this issue? If not, through which media does the research about Kurds have to go?[79] ZG: Actually, it was possible to write about the Kurdish question from Turkey, but to a foreign journal or publishing house. It all depends on whether the students now doing their Ph.D.s on the Kurdish issue take up positions within other universities than the ones who have already ‘opened’ up.[80] EJTS: Concerning more specifically the Kurdish question, what has been the place given in time to scientific expertise (if there was any) by governmental authorities?[81] ZG: I’m not sure if they have any impact on government policy, but the government is funding a lot of research in the region. Because of the possibility of doing research and being able to touch issues that are politically sensitive in a much more academic and calm-headed manner, they are actually able to say certain things. But the intellectuals and the activists are the ones who are the path breakers in Turkey in any case, not the politicians.[86] EJTS: In your case, it seems that your social and political involvement has a reflexive impact and leads you to rethink your approach of scientific research and the way you are conducting fieldwork itself. It is also my academic research that fuels my political engagement. It is because, in France, I met a lot of different people, from the left, from the Kurdish circles, but also French activists and engaged people, that, when I came here, I did this Kurdish research, my first empirical one. But it was not about belonging to any of the present set of political alternatives or parties: it was a third ground![88] EJTS: But did it change your way of thinking about research itself?[89] ZG: It did help clarify my mind. I take the social question seriously now, for example, whereas for me, the political question was the question. I was disenchanted with academia, after realizing how power works also in the universities, also in the minds of researchers and professors, and how it is so very difficult to get a critical idea across in an academic meeting. Sometimes non-academicians are more open to hearing certain things than academics themselves, which is a sobering fact.[90] EJTS: Do you think that the present political situation will lead in the short/mid-term to major (positive or negative) transformations of the scientific research on the Kurdish issue, to transformations of the Turkish academic sphere more broadly?

-ne Peca’s broken leg is good news considering there is not serious ligament of structural knee or leg damage, he is expected to make a full recovery, when is the only question that remains.Just before I was about to put up a post explaining how important Peca is to this team, Crack, his season is done, and maybe the Leafs are too. Skating, stick handling, and passing are Bell’s strong points and have been throughout his career, these are the tools missing when White is paired with Gill and are the root cause to the problems that this combo have faced.Colaiacovo’s return should also mean his return to the PP and PK. Not only are they sticking with White, but they are rewarding him when I feel we should return him (while we still can safely) to the minions and go with Bell and Belak on D.5 on 5Kubina KaberleColaiacovo McCabe Bell Gill Kubina KaberleColaiacovo GillBell Belak (with McCabe at W)In the spirit of questioning the coaching, I still wonder while Maurice feels inclined to break up chemistry when he does not need to alter pairings. Suglobov, in both cases should have found his way next to Sundin, the Leafs need this guy to get settled into the NHL.Lastly, before I conclude my Christmas post, Saturday night was one of those nights as Sundin scored back to back goals 14 seconds apart.

Biblical Glasses: Romans 9:22-24

Array It’s funny how I feel differently about birthdays every year, some years I celebrate birthdays looking excitedly far down the track and trying to peek what’s in store for me for the year, hoping that each day will get even better. This year particularly, my priority is to celebrate my birthday rejoicing in everything I’ve already got, instead of wishing and hoping for more.

This project took me a bit longer than usual to paint. I could not summon up the interest I needed to have to do a good job on the painting. In fact, this painting was painted over the remains of cowboy Jim, who just never quite made it to a place I felt comfortable with. But if you can make money escaping from the daily realities and problems inherent in life and you really enjoy it too, why not? This was a very hard painting to photograph.

I’ve been very thankful that I have not been tired (exhausted would be a better word) like my other pregnancies, but I can definitely say I’ve been more tired lately and I better learn to go to bed earlier or I’m gonna hit exhaustion. So I had an ultrasound and OB appointment today. Banked cord blood is more useful in cancer cases, but can also be used in some genetic disorders and immune system disorders (that was the one that prompted us to wonder). We had previous rejected the idea of prenatal screening, but upon seeing the cost just to register for cord banking (and then yearly storage fees) we thought that screening might give us a better idea of if we needed to bank the blood. He felt that Cord Banking would not help in our situation, his only hesitation was that if this child is completely LPI free (meaning not a carrier either) then the banked cord blood could possibly help James down the line. So we won’t be doing any screening and unless our Genetic Doctor thinks of a good reason that the Cord Banking would be worthwhile I think we’ll leave that idea behind too.James did relatively well today.

What if God, choosing to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the objects of His wrath–prepared for destruction? Those who are damned will never be able to blame God saying, “I’m damned, because God did not choose me!” Paul continues the glimpse into God’s sovereign purposes with the third part of his argument: God did this in order to show his mercy to His chosen ones. Paul is assuring us that when, on the day of wrath and judgment and glory, on the day that God the Father reveals His Son in all His glory, that on that day we will look at every deed, including God’s choosing some and passing over others, and we will say, “Ah, I see now how that exalts God’s mercy. Paul says God’s condemnation serves to exalt His mercy.People object to v22 by asking, “How can a loving God choose some and pass over others without compromising His love?” And Paul comes back and says, “It is the purpose of the secret counsel of God that everything He does conspires to reveal His glory to those who have tasted His mercy.” They say, “How can you say that a loving God would choose some and condemn others to eternal damnation?” God’s purpose in election, God’s purpose in choosing, God’s purpose in foreordaining His people before the foundation of the world is to make known His glory to the objects of His mercy, which were prepared in advance. Paul gets us back on path, not to dwell on why God destines some to eternal destruction, but to dwell on the fact that He has poured out on us His infinite mercy and saving love and unending faithfulness on us.

However, when portraying the harsh reality of addiction and what that can do to someone’s life and their loved ones, using it to promote their video games is a little much. Yeah video games are addictive (SEE: Everquest, etc) and can cause some of they touch upon, but only in extreme cases and nothing like the frequency of tradgey that occurs with other, and arguably, more serious forms of addiction (SEE: gambling, drugs, alcohol, to name a few). Speaking of retarded: Peyton Manning threw 6 TD’s against Detroit yesterday, to bring his season total to 41. He’s on pace to throw over 60 and has 5 more games to throw 7 more and break the single season record.

and I pray God your whole spirit, and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The first book of the Bible tells us that the first humans, Adam and Eve, sinned against God. Humans lost their fellowship with God Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. God gives His people the Law After Adam and Eve’s initial sin, the world became a very sinful place. God’s gives His people the Final Covenant The Bible is clear when it states that SIN SEPARATES MAN FROM GOD: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. God told the Jews this: Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. The prophesies of God’s coming (God the Son, Jesus Christ) are found throughout the Old Testament: The incarnation of God the Son For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Let us compare these three Old Testament passages with three passages from the New Testament: The coming of God the Son (Word became Flesh) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. He Himself would come in the form of Jesus Christ (God the Son), and provide the only acceptable atonement, which was God’s Precious Blood. This is salvation: THE GOSPEL is the birth, life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; Upon seeing Jesus, John the Baptist identifies Jesus as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” (John 1:29). Some religions even teach that Jesus is “the Saviour”, but lack the bridge between God and man, trust in the sacrifice of His Blood alone. Jesus was fully man, yet fully God, and sinless. We cannot earn salvation through our works, because the Bible says that we are saved through faith in the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Not only does the Bible say that we cannot earn salvation, but it also tells us that if we could work for our salvation then Christ died needlessly: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law…I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if rightousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.(Galatians 2:16, 21). Through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, God regained for us what he had initially given Adam and Eve, prior to their sin in Eden: ETERNAL LIFE. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. It a free gift for all who call upon the name of the Lord: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved…For whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Because Jesus, God the Son, had to fulfill the Scriptures and be crucified, and resurrected, God the Holy Spirit would be sent to dwell in us: What? More importantly, our new nature makes us dead to sin and alive in the Christ: Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Christianity is a Relationship with God One of the most important tenets of the Christian faith is the development of a relationship with God. By knowing what The Bible says we can teach others about the faith, lead the lost to Christ, and produce more good works for God. The Bible tells us: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. He gives us comfort when our faith is tested and the forgiveness of sin comes through God alone. They are: 1) The inspiration of Scripture and the inerrancy of the Bible 2) The Trinity 3) The Deity of Jesus Christ 4) The virgin birth of Jesus Christ 5) The substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ’s death 6) Salvation is a free gift which comes through faith in Christ alone 7) The literal resurrection of Jesus Christ 8) The physical return of Jesus Christ (The Second Coming) When looking for a home church, we must examine its teachings and ensure that it at least adheres to these basic teachings. In PART 2, we will examine them in detail: 1) The Inspiration of Scripture and the Inerrancy of the Bible Bible-believing Christians believe that the Bible is the Word of God. For this reason also we thank God without ceasing, because when ye received the Word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in Truth, the Word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe. 2) The Trinity and 3) the Deity of Christ As bible-believing Christians, we believe in ONE God who is triune (three persons in one God). The God-head is NOT made up of three gods, nor is it a three-headed god. LORD God and LORD Jesus are the same LORD Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel [God the Father] and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts[God the Son] : ‘I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides me… (Isaiah 44:6). If Jesus isn’t the LORD God, then when did God the Father die? If the Holy Spirit isn’t God then why (“A Biblical Response to Jehovah’s Witnesses”, par 9.) Is He called God (Acts 5:3-5)? All claims of Jesus being God are valid. The Bible tells us that: In the beginning was the Word [Jesus], and the Word was with God [the Father], and the Word was God [the Son]. There are many parallels throughout the Bible in reference to both God the Father and God the Son (Jesus Christ). Let us look at some of them: Every knee shall bow to God Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God and there is none else. If Jesus is not God, then why does Phillipians 2:9-11 say this: …at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. If Jesus is not God, then why does Acts 4:12 tell us that: Neither is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men where by ye must be saved. God is the Rock/Jesus is the Rock …Ascribe ye greatness unto our God. (Deuteronomy 32:3-4) If Jesus is not God, then why does 1 Corinthians 10:4 refer to Jesus as the Rock too: …they drunk of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Jesus Christ. The Bible is clear: Jesus is our Rock, Saviour and God. This is because Jesus was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), and was conceived not of a union between a man and a woman, but through the power of God the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35). 5) The Substitutionary Atonement of Jesus Christ’s Death and 6) Salvation is a FREE GIFT which comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. His death was the only acceptable sacrifice to God for our sins. However, salvation according to the Bible, is a FREE GIFT from God and comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. …We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. For the wages of sin is deth, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. For the bible-believing Christian, salvation is not on a “hope-so” basis, but a “know-so” basis: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe on the name of the son of God. Nobody knows except God the Father of the day of His return And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory…But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. The Bible instructs us to be knowledgeable in God’s Word and to be able to defend it from false doctrine: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear…(2 Peter 3:15). We can be at peace at knowing that salvation is a free gift from God, given to us by God through our faith in the finished work of Jesus on the cross. You cannot earn salvation by doing enough good works to please God, nor can “religion” bring you closer to God. The Bible teaches us there is only one mediator between God and men: the man Jesus Christ. Only Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, made it possible for God to give the gift of salvation to us (Romans 6:23). The Bible teaches us that if you confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ) 4) Invite Jesus into your life through the following prayer. I thank you God, for this wonderful gift of salvation, which was given to me because of my faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross (Ephesians 2:8-9).

-ne We now come to our final lesson on the Second Coming of Christ and of his arch opponent the Antichrist. ‘and now you know whom (neuter) is restraining (the Antichrist being restrained, no object supplied in the text) for the purpose of revealing him at the proper time, for the mystery of lawlessness is already working secretly, only Him who (masculine) restrains until now, from the midst is taken away’ It is most frustrating that Paul changes the gender of the restrainer from neuter in verse 6 to masculine in vs 7. While grammatically it is mandatory for the Holy Spirit to assume neuter gender in Greek, which means that Paul’s use in verse 6 obeys the rules of grammar. Furthermore, if the Holy Spirit is holding back the Antichrist, then we know that God reigns and at the right moment the command will be given and the Antichrist will be revealed, ‘whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breathe of his mouth and the splendour of his coming’ AMEN. Have wonderful Christmas, for at Christmas we remember that the Son of God became the Son of Man so that the sons of men might become the sons of God.

The multi-coloured, flashing spots bordering roof rims and window panes that, in Kansas anyway, are a warm sight in the long, cold nights, are out of place in a country where it’s light until 10:00 and sees the sun rise at 5:00. A sort of half way point where a great deal of bother is made over heavy foods, spiced wine, and lots and lots of light. Slowly, however, it seems subsequent generations are shuffling off the coils of tradition and setting into motion an altered, more appropriate ceremony.
